Gregoire (Greg) Poirier, a credentialed Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers since 1995, is the President and Founder of the American Grand Cru Society®.
He received his Masters of Business Administration focusing on the global wine trade in 2010 from L’Ecole de Management in Bordeaux, France. Years of wine research and travel across the globe coupled with his MBA studies in Bordeaux led him to found the American Grand Cru Society® to identify the best vineyards and wine production in the U.S.
An entrepreneur with a background in wine, hospitality and technology, Greg has years of wine industry experience including import/export, buying, and hosting private wine tours to Bordeaux for Calvert Woodley in Washington DC. He has also hosted private tours for clients to Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, and the Rhone Valley.
Greg appreciates the many experiences his wine travels have afforded him, including the opportunity to conduct some genealogical research about his family roots in the Ardèche area of France’s Rhone wine region. Whether supporting American Grand Cru® work or satiating other wine travel curiosities, he is often heard reciting his catchphrase and paramount belief that, “Great wines come from great vineyards – that’s just the way it is!”
